Full Bleed USA

Du-Good Press is pleased to announce the release of a new edition as a result of a collaboration with artist Royal Jarmon, “Full Bleed USA”. In his latest work, Royal Jarmon uses the iconic map of the United States which in his rendering becomes squeezed, smashed, and altered. This warping takes place within the familiar confines of a rendering of school-lined paper, casually referencing the meandering hand of a daydreaming student.

The deckle edge on top and bottom exaggerate the borders where Canada and Mexico exist, and doubly so by the harder edge of the left and right with the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans respectively. This visual interpretation of  America plays with the notion of borders; are there none? Or are they hyper present as a result of the abstract value of warping to fit perfectly into a rectilinear space?

Politics is further complicated by the willfully out of proportion depiction of the lower forty eight states. As we approach 2020, a hyper political election year, the importance and size of each state will come into greater focus and scrutiny with each coming month although to be fair, a gridlocked keyboard depiction of America could be found in any history book.
