Michael Dotson uses frames from Disney movies as a basis for his paintings, grabbing stills from the internet and manipulating the images in Photoshop and other programs.  The result is a hallucinogenic counter archive of our cultural Disney unconscious.  The familiar figures are stretched, inverted, multiplied, texturized, inflated, and flattened.  The digital effects applied to "hallowed" Disney animation disturbs and appeals to our collective dreams and nightmares.  The print "Floating With You" uses an image of Cinderella and Prince Charming in the moment of losing self and floating away together.

Michael Dotson lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. He received his MFA from the American University in Washington D.C. and his BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art. In 2016, he had a solo exhibit at Zieher Smith & Horton. He has had notable international exhibitions which include A Whole New World, a solo presentation at Salon Zurcher, Paris and a group show at Brand New Gallery, Milan. He has presented in group shows at Eric Firestone Gallery, East Hampton, The Hole, New York, Castor Gallery, New York, and Graham Gallery, New York. Michael was recently featured in The Huffington Post, FRIEZE Magazine as well as Dwell Magazine and New American Paintings.
